The album's title is the ungrammatical feminine version of the Latin word for 'digger'. The album was partially inspired by the 2018 death of Bjork's mother, Hildur Runa Hauksdottir, particularly the songs 'Sorrowful Soil' and 'Ancestress'. The songs were written during and after the COVID 19 lockdowns, during which Bjork returned to her home country.
