The earrings are carved in the shape of an adze, or Toki. The Toki (adze) was an important Mori implement, used to chip and shave wood and stone, and sometimes used as a weapon. In bone or greenstone jewellery, it was traditionally worn by Mori elders, as it represented power, wisdom and authority. The earrings are approximately 3. 4cm
