The Distinguished Service Cross or DSC originally known as the Conspicuous Service Cross (renamed in 1914) and was awarded across all ranks of the Royal Navy

The badge was intended to be worn on the right breast or lapel of civilian clothing and was not permitted to be worn on military uniform

Its qualifying period was subsequently extended to include certain post-war operations

The General Service Medal 1962 2007, also referred to as The Campaign Service Medal replaced the GSM (Army & RAF) and the Navy GSM in 1964 and was backdated to December 1962 to cover the Borneo campaign. This was the longest running operation in the history of UK forces.
